Reps suspend plenary to deliberate on 2017 budget
The House of Representatives on Thursday suspended
plenary to deliberate on the 2017 Appropriation Act.
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on
Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas told
newsmen in Abuja that the House would resume
plenary on Feb. 21.
According to him, the decision of the House to suspend
plenary was to provide the lawmakers the opportunity
to meet the deadline for the passage of the budget.
“We are not going on recess, we are only suspending
plenary to enable us meet the time frame set for the
passage of the 2017 budget.
“This time around the process is going to involve public
hearing whereby the media and the civil society
organisations will see what we are doing.
“It is going to be a collective work and the process will
be transparent,’’ Namdas added.
He further said that the period would provide a platform
for the lawmakers to effectively carry out their oversight
functions on the activities of ministries, departments
and agencies. (NAN)
