Police rescue 8 travelers abducted in Kogi
The Kogi State Police Command yesterday said its men
rescued eight travelers abducted by gunmen while on
their way from Makurdi, Benue State en route Ibadan.
The Command’s spokesman, Williams Aya, who
confirmed this, said the gunmen had on Thursday
waylaid the travelers near the Itobe Bridge along the
Ajaokuta-Lokoja road and took them into the bush.
He said the abductors called relatives of the victims
and demanded for N20 million ransom, adding that the
police upon getting wind of the incident, swung into
action and were able to rescue all the victims unhurt.
Aya said that its men engaged the abductors in a gun
duel with some of them escaping with bullet wounds.
He said that amongst the items recovered from the
fleeing suspects include one locally-made gun, one
cutlass, and others.
