Presidential c’ttee partner Council, BoI on North-East agric

The Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative
(PCNI), has urged the National Agricultural Seed Council
(NASC) and the Bank of Industry (BoI) to collaborate
with it in the re-building of North-East devastated by the
Boko Haram insurgency.
The committee, which visited the headquarters of both
government agencies yesterday in Abuja, urged them to
provide improved, proficient and quality seeds for
farmers in the region and also to give low-interest loans
to small and medium-scale entrepreneurs.
The initiative’s sub-committee on Economic
Development chairman, Hon. Yusuf Yakub Buba, who
led other members to the Director-General of NASC, Dr.
Philip Olusegun Ojo, said that since many of the
displaced people are billed to return to their localities, it
will be in the interest of the region and the nation that
they return to farming.
He urged the council to key into the federal
government’s project by availing the committee of its
support in efforts to make the region an agricultural
power-house again.
Receiving the committee at the BoI headquarters, its
Managing Director, Waheed Olagunju, assured that the
bank is addressing the region’s issues by formulating
and sustaining a number of programmes which it has
already begun.
