It’s time we negotiate with Boko Haram – SANI ZORO

A member of the Federal House of
Representatives and chairman House committee
on Refugees, Sani Zoro has advised the federal
government to negotiate with the Boko Haram
insurgents to bring lasting peace to the country.
He said this while speaking recently during a
stakeholders meeting organised by the National
Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held in Abuja
to access the plights of Internally displaced
persons in the country. The lawmaker said all over the world, conflicts
were not unusual but it was the duty of the
human race to negotiate because “all conflicts
end up on the negotiating table.”
He said that it was time the government commit
the nation’s resources to development rather
than the purchase of weapons and ammunitions
to be used in fighting, saying that “we need to
negotiate with these bad boys, honestly.”
Zoro noted that after the death of Mohammed
Yusuf, former leader of the group, all that the
insurgents asked for was the rebuilding of their
mosque and compensation for the death of five
members “which would have cost the government
not more than four million naira, but today we
have lost lives and we are still spending money to
curb insurgency.”
