Write more books to enhance national cohesion, Sultan urges Nigerians
Sultan of Sokoto,Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar has
called on Nigerians to enhance the art of book writing
towards reviving the reading culture in the country and
enhancing national cohesion.
"Books are often used as tools to teach history, religion
and culture, as a way of bolstering national
cohesion.Nigerians should therefore imbibe this lofty
habit which would greatly help in reviving the once
vibrant reading culture, " he said.
The Sultan stated this on Saturday at the launching of
a book 'The Qur'an and Modern Science: Friends or
Foes' by a graduate of Veterinary Medicine from
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto,Dr Yusuf
Abubakar.
Speaking through the District Head of Dundaye, Alhaji
Bello Yakubu,the royal father applauded Dr Yusuf
Abubakar for his efforts in book writing.
He stressed the need for the habit to be enhanced
among Nigerians.
"Books are veritable media of information dissemination,
knowledge sharing and socio-cultural integration," he
pointed out.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi,
Secretary to Zamfara State Government, also
underscored the importance of books.
He noted books as indispensable tools of communal
and national development.
Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto
,Prof. Abdullahi Zuru expressed commitment of the
institution towards producing quality graduates who
would impact positively on the society.
In his remark, author of the book, Abubakar
stated:"This is also my little gesture towards
strengthening the literary world, as well as widening the
learning landscape."
